I completed medical school from the prestigious Medical College Kolkata, one of the oldest medical colleges in Asia to teach Western Medicine. By the fourth year of medical school, when I was exposed to clinical medicine, I developed a keen interest in surgical specialties. After completing medical school, I worked with several surgeons in different surgical specialties and developed my passion for urology. I completed six years of residency training in general surgery, adult and pediatric urology from the renowned KEM Hospital and Nair Hospital, two apex centers in Western India, also called “mecca of surgical training in India”. My mentors were Dr Avinash Supe, Dr H. R. Pathak and Dr M. Andankar. Subsequently, I obtained training in Advanced Laparoscopy and Renal Transplantation in Kochi, India under the supervision of Dr George P Abraham, a pioneer of endourology, laparoscopy and renal transplantation in Southern India and credited with 15000 endourology, 9000 laparoscopic procedures and 2500 renal transplantations. In pursuit to excellence, I undertook additional training in different subspecialities of urology from several apex centers in USA, Europe and Australia, which included New York Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical College, New York, USA, Coral Gables Hospital, Miami, USA, Celebration Health, Orlando, Florida, USA, Strasbourg, France, Radboud University, Netherlands, University of Vienna, Austria, Royal Adelaide Hospital, Adelaide, Australia and Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, Australia. I successfully completed several fellowships in subspecialities in urology
I have a keen interest in academics. I won several academic awards during my medical school, surgery and urology training, including the prestigious Gold Medal in FRCS Urology exam, UK, the highest order examination in Surgical Specialties, held by all four Royal Colleges of United Kingdom. I have keen interest in research and participated in several worldwide multicenter trials. I have been involved in 150 international publications (papers and abstracts) and presentations and delivered several CMEs during my career. I play the role of reviewer for several prestigious journals. I am a member of several prestigious societies. I am an ambassador of U-merge, a scientific organization involved in education and training of urologists globally.
I have been in private practice since 2009. I believe in ethical practice. I believe a good doctor should combine knowledge, skills and empathy and these are the tenets of my practice.
